If You Need Fire Recovery – Bistro, Restaurant, or Other Eatery – We’ve Got You Covered
In colonial days large-sized barrels were known as “pipes”. They were used in trade, and Newington was a primary source of the staves needed to make the pipes due to the abundance of forest land. The area became known as Pipestem Swamp. It was later called Cow Plain and then West Farms due to being used for a cow pasture, and then an expanse for new farms. In 1721 it was granted the name Newington which means “new town in the meadow”. It certainly was an apt name for this quaint village. Along the way, some interesting things occurred:
- The town was incorporated in 1871
- The precursor to the Berlin Turnpike began in 1878
- American Radio Relay League is located here
- In 1812, Levi Lusk established a tavern on the turnpike
- The first telephone was installed in John’s Gish Store in 1883
- Trolley service started in 1894
- It cost $0.05 to ride the trolley into Hartford
- Connecticut’s first tuberculosis sanitarium was established in 1911
- Berlin Turnpike renames the Hartford/Newhaven Turnpike in 1942
Today Newington is a thriving community with many bistros and restaurants. Residents and visitors alike can satisfy their taste buds by dining at:
- Goldburgers
- Joey Garlics’ Newington
- Cora Cora
- Rooster Co.
- Ruth’s Chris Steak House
- Puerto Vallarta
- Yannis Pizza Restaurant
- Mykonos Mediterranean Restaurant
- Lucky Lou’s Bar & Grill
- The Sloppy Waffle
- The Little Cake Café
- Restaurant Bricco
- Casa Mia on the Hill
- Taj Al Sham Cuisine
- Chef’s Dog House
- Sophia’s Breakfast & Lunch
That is just a sampling of the wonderful variety of food one can enjoy. The town is full of diverse flavors and international cuisine.
Mill Pond Falls
One of the favorite places to see in the area is Mill Pond Falls. This lovely waterfall is known as “the smallest natural waterfall in the US. Each fall, a local festival is held celebrating the waterfall. It all began in 1860 when a sawmill was constructed on Mill Pond. Back then, the town was part of the city of Wethersfield. Sawmills played a crucial part in the making of the pipe staves, and the building of the mill did much to promote the local economy.
Water is needed to run a sawmill, and Mill Pond was the perfect location. While the sawmill no longer exists, the falls remain a source of local history and beauty. They are featured on the Newington Town Seal. Mill Pond Park was built around the falls, and folks can:
- Walk
- Bike
- Fish
- Swim in a public pool.
- Stop and rest in the gazebo
- Enjoy the gardens
- Picnic
- Listen to concerts
- Play basketball, baseball, tennis, or soccer
- Relax with the kids at the playground
- Hike the trails
- Grab a bite from the concession stands
Mills Pond Park is a great place to spend the day. You can reserve picnic areas for local functions. There is an activity to enjoy for everyone in the family. If you ever wanted to learn how to play Cornhole or participate in a league, the park is the place to do it.
Newington Celebrations
During the summer, the town hosts the Newington Extravaganza, and visitors can enjoy boating around the pond. Weddings and other ceremonies often place in the beautifully landscaped garden area. It is a favorite for photoshoots as well. In the fall, the Waterfall Festival takes place. It is a time of reflection and fun. Vendors of all kinds gather to share their goods, music groups from local schools can be enjoyed, and various organizations sponsor different events. One of the main events is the “Artist’s Chalk Walk”. Kids and adults compete against each other for prizes, and the residents vote for the winners. It’s an event the whole town looks forward to each year. Everyone can be an artist, at least during this special day.
Other special events throughout the year include:
- Kindness Counts
- Halloween Party
- Motorcycle Madness
- Edythe and Harry Mandell Summer Concert Series
- Touch-a-Truck
- Night of Lights
- Visits with Santa
- Winter Wonderland
Mills Pond Park never lacks for something to see and do. Whether you are going out for a meal, looking for a lazy day in the park, or a special event for the entire family, Newington offers the opportunity.
The Thankful Tree – A Reminder of the Past
The town of Newington owes much to the sawmill that is long gone and the little waterfall that powered it. They have recognized this over the years, and on April 17, 2010, planted a magnificent Crimson Maple. It stands in front of the waterfall as a place of reflection and reminds residents of the need to be thankful for what has been given.
What is the Purpose of a Fire Restoration Company Like SERVPRO?
Our main goal is to help businesses through a difficult time. How we do that is through our fire restoration services. We mitigate fire damage to local businesses by providing cleanup, repair, and restoration. This includes:
- Doing a thorough scope of the commercial facility
- Establishing a plan of action based on the findings
- Removal of debris or charred materials
- Mitigate residual water, odor, and soot damage
We strive to return your bistro to preloss conditions whenever possible. As the proprietor, our fire and smoke restoration technicians (FSRT) work with you to determine the best action to rebuild the eatery.
Fast Response Time
Responding rapidly to any commercial fire is vital. The longer water, soot, and smoke residue sit, the more damage they do. The chemicals used in putting out the fire needs to be cleaned up, and the building has to be dried out. Secondary damage such as mold can occur if immediate remediation does not occur. Our technicians work as quickly as possible to lessen the fire’s impact.
What Type of Problems Does SERVPRO Deal with on Commercial Properties?
Our Green Team mitigates a variety of issues when it comes to business fires. What we do also depends on how destructive the fire was and how much of the building was impacted. Smoke can spread rapidly and cause damage to non-impacted regions. But the three main problems we handle include:
- Residual Water
- Soot Removal
- Smoke Odors
